Imagine the darkness in the souls of those sheep who scattered when their Shepherd was smitten.

Confusion. Remorse. And there, misting in with the setting of the Passover sun, threatening to prevent the dawn, the blackest darkness of the living…the darkness of despair.

If only a Peter, a James, or a John had remembered the Word, the gospel truth Jesus had spoken before His demise:

That the Son of man must suffer many things…and be killed, and after three days rise again (Mark 8:31).

Light. The light of the Savior’s own Word shining on the darkness of His death: the great hope that He dies to rise again.

If only we would recall…

In the thousand times we go astray

In the seventy times seven times we do not forgive

As we hear the bad news press tell us of the one hundred thousand now dead

In this pandemic…

Recall just this, just what Jesus said: in three days…shall rise again.

And then: that He…did!

For sinners such as we all are.

That resurrection light, shining in our dark.

For such a time as this.
