Jesus Among the Ignorant and Self-Righteous
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zech 9: 9) It was a great time for a virus, and the spread of a virus.
Passover. First century A.D.
Millions flocking to Jerusalem. Crowds of Jews from Palestine and all over the world.
Then there is Jesus—the great miracle-worker come to town.
The people take branches of palm trees and go forth to meet him and cry Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord.
Masses mobbing Messiah.
But something ill about the lot of them. Some religious virus long infecting this generation of Jews’ brains…
Ignorance.
Heirs too of bad hearts, and sin-weakened wicked auto-immune responses to truth…
Self-righteousness.
Ignorance and self-righteousness.
Such can not know the Jesus of Zechariah, Palm Sunday, this humility, this donkey, this God.
Such can not trust the Jesus Who is our righteousness or we have none.
Sunday’s cries of praise will be Friday’s crucifies.
As the virus spreads.
Deadly, Christ-killing unbelief
For such a time as this.
With you in Him, confiding in the Savior and His truth and love,
