Jonah said, “Salvation is of the Lord.” (Jonah 2:9) What does that mean? It means exactly what it says. The Lord Jesus said, “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.” (John 15:16) How do you interpret that? It means exactly what it says! One of the Lord’s dearest friends, John, the disciple whom Jesus loved and was often found near his Lord, said this. “We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) Do you wonder at all about what that means? You don’t have to wonder. It means exactly what it says. God first loved us. We love God only because He first loved us and gave us life. God’s Word means exactly what it says. The gospel is so plain, direct and simple, but God has to give you spiritual life to believe it. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” Is that hard for us to understand? No. It means exactly what it says. May God enable us to believe what it says!
