When Jesus predicted the early signs pointing to His return, He said in Luke 21:11, "And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences….” The word translated “pestilences” can refer to a plague. (The word is also found in Mt. 24:7, but based on questionable textual evidence.) It may be that the corona virus is one fulfillment of this prophecy. In spite of man’s advances in medical science, Jesus said there would be pestilence and plague all the way to the end times. If the world is reacting the way it is to the corona virus, including fear, panic, and economic turmoil, think of what will happen when the prophecy of the four horsemen of Revelation 6 takes place (false peace, then worldwide war and/or violence, then vast worldwide economic turmoil/shortages, followed by Death). V.8 says, “And power was given unto them [Death riding on a pale horse] over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.” The last reference to “death” could refer to a viral or bacterial pandemic, or some other cause of mass death such as chemical warfare. That will be the big one, which along with the other means of death listed will kill one fourth of the world’s population! This also was a revelation given by Jesus Christ (Rev. 1:1). I would pay attention to it!
I am glad that by faith I belong to Him (Jesus) who not only knows the future, but is in complete control of the future. He said in Rev. 1:11, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last." He also said in Rev. 1:18, “I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” Many Bible teachers and other Christians believe that believers will be raptured before the worst of these prophetic events take place (Rev. 3:10; etc.). While we can’t expect to be exempt from persecution and other forms of human suffering, we will certainly be protected from God’s wrath that will be poured out on this world at and before the glorious return of Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords! (1 Thess. 5:9). Have you put your faith in Him?
