1 Thessalonians 5:8, "But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation." Colossians 3:11, “Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.”
Patrick was born this day about 385. He knew literally what it was to be bond and free, for he was stolen away to slavery. He commenced his autobiographical Confession with these words:
“My name is Patrick. I am a sinner, a simple country person,and the least of all believers.”
To the “Apostle of Ireland” Christ was all. The following words are attributed to him. It has been called "St Patrick's Breastplate." It is a prayer of trust in Christ for safety.
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
