First, doubt is the natural realm of humanity [vs16]! Thank God we are not condemned for doubting.
Meanwhile, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.
A man doubted in Mark 9, but Jesus helped him, according to his faith.
Immediately the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
Abraham was fully persuaded, but doubt was not foreign to him. We believe and doubt. We are IMPERFECT, but He uses us, because He is our perfect Mediator: It is because of Christ that we are blessed, so we have hope. We don’t have to be perfect, but trust the Perfect One. He is risen from the dead. He is victorious. He is the reason we are saved.
Even when Peter, James, and John - His three strongest men - were asleep, the Lord persevered in prayer [Mark 14:41]. When all forsook Him, He Himself remained faithful. He is the reason we have the Spirit, forgiveness, and hope!
Secondly, we have the decree: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations [vs18-19].”
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Silly men blaspheme God with decrees and declarations, but nothing happens! They decree health, but run from coronavirus. They decree wealth, but their disciples grow poorer. They decree like bigshots, but they can do nothing - merely talking big but saying nothing. They say, but they don’t do.
The Lord Jesus, however, decrees from a different authority and power: He is God manifested in the flesh, the Perfect Son, the One who is resurrected from the dead! He is the One the Father commanded to obey, and having fulfilled it, He has all power in His hands. He decrees, and it happens. He speaks, and it comes to pass, because nothing can stop Him or stay His hand [Mark 4:35]. He speaks with all authority in heaven and earth, so that no one else has any authority at all.
When Ezra and the Jews rebuilt the temple, the work stopped because a king spoke authoritatively. Then, the prophets came and spoke, and the work STARTED again! When search was made, it was proven they had a right to build, because King Cyrus previously commanded it [Ezra 4-5]. Likewise, when search is made in conscience, in history, and in the record book of God, we see that we have a right to spread the gospel and make disciples because our King has commanded it, and He is the highest power.
Brothers, get to work fearlessly. The King has spoken. Making disciples is His command!
Finally, we have the declaration: “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you [vs20].”
Teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
This gives us confidence that we must not hold back in teaching the gospel! We must not be afraid to declare anything that He has said. People have no right to take Christ on their terms. They are to be taught, baptized, and become obedient! They are told how to live, think, and do everything. There is no free reign, where we can take the benefits without the bitter herbs [Ex 12:8]. There is no selfish or self-centered life that can be lived. All must become disciplers, making others followers of Christ. All must obey everything.
Teach all confidently. Don’t feel like you’re stepping on toes or overburdening the people. Just teach it in the light of the gospel. We have new laws, new rules, and a new community for everyone that has newness of life. Christ imposes ABSOLUTE RULE on people.
