Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was among the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As surely as the LORD lives—the God of Israel before whom I stand—there will be neither dew nor rain in these years except at my word!” vs1
The true prophet speaks for God, and what he speaks happens. He is not like the frauds of today who vaguely say things, or promise a thousand people what will happen to five of them. No, a true prophet no longer exists because God’s final word is the Bible. If we take it, then we’ll be saved. If we look for cheap extras, despising the message, then we’ll be damned.
For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, in order that judgment will come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness. [2 Thess 2:11-12]
Don’t put your confidence in fake miracles.
Secondly, a true prophet is cared for [vs2-4].
Then a revelation from the LORD came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Brook Cherith, east of the Jordan. And you are to drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
He will never leave us alone in the midst of adversity, forsaking His promise to care for us. As we do His will, we can be sure that He will provide. He will give power and peace, and He will give us our provision.
Sometimes, we don’t know where the next meal will come from, the next payment to meet our needs, or the next strength to keep going, but He does, and He is faithful!
The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it. [1 Thess 5:24]
Finally, God’s promises are good [1 Kings 17:13-14]!
“Do not be afraid,” Elijah said to her. “Go and do as you have said. But first make me a small cake of bread from what you have, and bring it out to me. Afterward, make some for yourself and your son, for this is what the LORD God of Israel says: ‘The jar of flour will not be exhausted and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD sends rain on the face of the earth.’”
Let us do His will first. Let us seek first the kingdom of God, the glory of Christ, and the good of faithfulness. Let us first believe, and then feelings will come. Let us look upon Him as faithful to save us, WHILE we are in our sins, and He will bring us to bliss as promised.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and there will be no more death
or mourning or crying or pain,
for the former things have passed away.” [Rev 21:4]
The God and Father of our Lord Jesus cannot be unfaithful. He resurrected Christ, and He will resurrect all who trust Him.
