There are not many things in life that we can call “very sure.” The Word of God however has that attribute of certainty. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater.” Certainly our feelings are not sure. I came upon the following poem. It is said to have been written by Martin Luther. It probably was written by an English speaking poet but based upon sayings of Luther. It certainly contains the declared sentiments of Luther. He once said, "I don't feel that my sins are forgiven, but I know they are, because God says so in His Word."

Feelings come and feelings go,

And feelings are deceiving;

My warrant is the Word of God;

Naught else is worth believing.

Though all my heart should feel condemned

For want of some sweet token,

There is One greater than my heart

Whose Word cannot be broken.

I'll trust in God's unchanging Word

Till soul and body sever,

For, though all things shall pass away,
