Looking at this lovely bride, the psalmist speaks to hear. He asks her to think deeply about what he is going to tell her (v10). She has come from a whole life of different surroundings, different places, different friends. Everything will be different for her from this moment on. He draws her out to look upon her new husband, who is in a position of honour, and to commit herself right there to set her mind and heart completely on the new life that lies before her. Everything that occupied her mind before is now in the past. He is not being insensitive to her, but rather giving her a great opportunity to set her passions on something greater and more noble. He is drawing her up into greater honour and is asking her to lay hold of this new challenge with her whole self. He is asking her to give herself to her new husband alone and the life he desires for her.

He, knowing the king, knows that the king is quite overwhelmed by the beauty of his new bride. He is enthralled. He is asking her to show her new husband the profoundest, reverent devotion because he is her lord. She is to desire him and devote herself to him with the same intensity with which he is enthralled with her.

The moments tick away, increasing in intensity until they are beating like a drum. The bride is in her private room, radiating with such beauty that she can fully be described as glorious. Her beauty is captivating, arresting. Again, what strikes those who see her is the costly, rare gold that is interwoven in her garment. Like the purity and beauty of that gold, her inner beauty is as charming as her outward loveliness. There is however more to her beauty now that she is led from her private room toward her groom. She, in addition to her comeliness will now also be adorned with the honour and magnificence of the king. She will be associated with him, taking his name and title as her own, intimately joined to him. All, over whom the king enjoys sovereignty, will now also be under her authority. Her glory will be elevated immensely because of the king’s love and desire for her.

Here we see her in the most wonderful moment of her life, with her heart pounding within her, stepping closer and closer the her new husband who truly desires her more than anything else in the world. It is her personally that he has chosen to be his bride, it is him personally that she admires and longs to be close to with all her heart. The consummation seems too overcoming to be true, the moments begin to overflow with emotions difficult to contain. Also quite emotional are the bride’s virgin companions that follow her to her utmost moment.

Closing your eyes, you can imagine the dignity of the moment that spirals higher and higher into a moment of unparalleled joy. The music begins to play and not a face is without a smile. The atmosphere explodes into rejoicing, unable to contain the swelling wonder and joy of the wedding being celebrated at its centre.
