Colossians 1:5, also refers to the future hope of the believer as one “which is laid up for you in heaven.” This is the future eternal happiness and everlasting possession that is reserved in heaven for all that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Rev. John Newton (1725-1807), the famous author of “Amazing grace how sweet the sound,” was one day called to visit a family in his parish. The family had just suffered the loss of all of their possessions in fire. It was a Christian family, but the mother of the home was not pleased with the initial greeting of her Pastor. Mr. Newton found her in tears as he met her at the door of her consumed property, and said, “I give you joy, Madam.” She replied, “What! Joy that all my property is consumed?” Mr Newton calmly answered, “Oh no, but joy that you have so much property that no fire can touch.” Happily that answer not only halted her rising anger but it also was used to comfort her grief.
