As I sat at my computer reading the back and forth arguments of two guys I went to high school with it dawned on me: They are comparing facts with feelings! There was nothing new about their discussion, it centered on two opposing political view points. On one side you have the liberal view that calls for equality and cries out against injustice. On the other side is a conservative voice giving statistics and dollar figures. Each side has elevated either facts or feelings as the driving factor of right and wrong. One says it doesn’t matter the cost and the other says we don’t have the money for these things. One quotes the constitution while the other tells sad stories. These conversations take place on social media everyday and I guess they always will.
Who’s right and who’s wrong? Well, that just depends on which side of the debate you are on. It wouldn’t take a private investigator to discover where I personally stand in the political arena. I’m driven by the facts and I don’t care how that makes you feel. I’m a law and order guy who quotes the constitution. We have laws for a reason. I’m financially conservative in my own personal life, so I say if you ain’t got it, you can’t spend it.
But what about equality for all? Friend, America is the fairest place on this planet. There’s more opportunity here than anywhere else. “Why am I not more concerned with injustice?” you ask. Because it’s impossible to eliminate all injustice and America has the least amount of it. If injustice bothers you, why don’t you go liberate some Muslim country where freedom of religion doesn’t exist, where women are oppressed, and homosexuality is illegal? They need your services far worse then we do. I’m a facts over feelings guy and that makes me a political conservative.
Those same principles are what make me a Biblical conservative. My religion is not built on feelings. It’s built on facts. Americans have the Constitution and Christians have the Bible. The Bible is not to be altered to conform with modern opinions and trends. We as Christians are to conform to it. I’m not staking my eternal future on an emotional decision or some smooth talking preacher. I am going to face death with confidence in the facts. The fact that Jesus Christ is the only Savior of mankind and I believe in him.
All the emotional arguments against my God and His Word don’t matter to me. I’m a facts guy. I know Biblical Christianity is out of style and when you call me narrow minded, its a compliment. We will never argue each other to our own position. My only prayer is that God would convince you of my position, because it’s obvious that I can’t convince you by myself.
