DID CHRIST MAKE SALVATION CERTAIN: OR MERELY POSSIBLE?

DID CHRIST MAKE SALVATION CERTAIN:
OR MERELY POSSIBLE?

To hear most men in their preaching, and to discuss with them the matter of Christ’s atonement, you would think that Jesus Christ was on a gambling kick to Las Vegas when He came to accomplish His eternal purpose; when He sent His Holy Son and offered Him on Calvary’s cross.
FOR WHOM DID CHRIST DIE? Did His death and bloodshed atone for the sins of all men or for all the sins of some men? Did Christ die to make salvation possible or did He die to make salvation certain? The answers to these questions are not impossible nor are they void of divine clarity. The Holy Scripture provides without confusion the information needed to clear these questions. Just to mention a few references for your consideration: “He shall see the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities” (Isaiah 53:11). “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth His life for the sheep” (not the goats!) (John 10:11). “…Christ…loved the Church, and gave Himself for it…” (Ephesians 5:25). These, along with many other Scripture texts clearly show that Christ atonement was particular and its design limited.
In the 16th and 17th centuries God raised up a mighty force of men (the Reformers and Puritans) to stand against the Arminian error and heresy; namely the doctrine of “universal atonement.” One of these men was the eminent Dr. John Owen, commonly called “the Prince of the Puritans.” From Dr. Owens works let me offer a very logical and reasonable argument.
“The Father imposed His wrath due unto, and the Son underwent punishment for either – All the sins of all men; or – All the sins of some men; or – Some of the sins of all men. In which case it may be said: That if the last be true (some of the sins of all men) all men have some sins to answer for, and so none are saved. That if the second be true (all the sins of some men), then Christ, in their stead suffered for all the sins of all the elect in the whole world, and this is the truth. If the first be the case (all the sins of all men), why are not all men free from the punishment due unto their sins? You answer, because of unbelief. I ask, is this unbelief a sin, or is it not? If it be, then Christ suffered the punishment due unto it, or He did not. If He did, why must that hinder them more than their other sins for which He died? If He did not, He did not die for all their sin!”

“Payment God cannot twice demand;
First at my bleeding Savior’s hand,
And then again at mine.”
