REFORMED EDUCATION âThe fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.â Proverbs 1:7
Will President Trumpâs new proposal plans for the education system work? I think not. It will be like all the other plans for the past thirty to forty years, just more taxpayers dollars poured down a dry hole. You canât stitch rotten fabric and expect it to hold. You canât build where there is no foundation. You canât grow fruit in unfertile ground. A system that attempts to teach knowledge where the principal part of knowledge has been ripped out and discarded can do nothing but fail. The âprincipal part of knowledgeâ is the âthe fear of the Lord.â The word âfearâ in our reference means a reverent and respectful acknowledgement of God. The government (public) education system censures any mention of God, much less a foundational and structural curriculum of the doctrine of God. The religion of the Hindus, the Buddhist, Muslim, or whatever else for that matter may be discussed in depth, but the discussion of Christianity, God and Jesus Christ is taboo; the Bible and prayer are banded. I ask you the question, when we have a system dominated by agnostic instructors and totally depraved minds for its pupils, what other than absolute failure must we expect? King Solomon, under the inspiration of God, wrote the Book of Proverbs, otherwise known as the Book of Wisdom. Solomon asked God for wisdom, and because he asked for nothing else God endowed Him with wisdom above all men neither prior to nor after him (I Kings 3:12). Therefore the wisest human being who ever lived could give the President and his education reformers a bit of âwiseâ advice. Namely, strive to put the principal part of knowledge (âthe fear of the LORDâ) back into the system. Solomon lays the foundation of all wisdom here, âthe fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.â Always this has been Godâs inspired declaration. Job declared it so before Solomon, Job 28:28; King David, the wise manâs father, also echoed Job in Psalm 111:10. Thus when Solomon is about to instruct us from the mouth of God he begins at the beginning, âthe principal part.â All heathen wisdom is folly. Of all knowledge the knowledge of God is the beginning. There is no true knowledge without God. Concerning Godâs judgments, statues, and commands (Deuteronomy 4:6-7), âKeep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for?â Let us allow Godâs word in Romans 3:3 to be the final word âLet God be true and every man a liar.â
