Did you ever think you could be God’s greatest gift to someone else? I’m not encouraging you to be vain, but simply telling you the truth. This story will help you understand what I mean: One day I saw a man sitting alone on a park bench. I came near him and asked if he knew he was going to Heaven. The man trusted Christ on the spot. After talking with him, I found out that shortly before I came, he had asked God to show him how to be saved. God used me to answer this man’s prayer.

You might say, “Well, Pastor Scudder, I think that was just a coincidence. You were in the right place at the right time, and that’s all there is to the story.” I disagree. There are no coincidences with God. If you really believe He is in control of everything, then it should come as no surprise that He can hear one man’s prayer and put another man in the way to answer it.

At any time, God may use us to be gifts to someone else. He may put us in the path of someone who needs words of encouragement, put us in the way of the person we will marry, put a friend or family member in our path who has a concern they need to share, or He may place us in the path of a lost person who needs to hear about Christ. The gift is in the mirror. We just have to be available when God is ready to use us.

I know how easy it is to get caught up in our busy lives, especially around Christmastime. Never get too busy to take advantage of opportunities God gives you to touch the lives of others. After all, isn’t that what Christmas is all about? Try to begin a habit of asking God to make you a gift to someone else each day. The gift in the mirror will be worth more to them than anything your money can buy
