A man felt like the shepherds in Bethlehem the night an angel surprised them and scared them half to death. Even the shepherds were given a sign, he thought. So, he prayed, “God, if You want me to witness, give me a sign.”

After his prayer, the Christian boarded a train to work when a large, burly man sat down in the seat beside him. The man started bawling uncontrollably and said, “I’m a wretched sinner. Won’t someone tell me how to be saved?”

The Christian bowed his head and closed his eyes, asking God, “Is this my sign?”

Can we really know if God is leading us in a certain direction? I believe so. Abraham saw God bless him and give him words of reassurance as he waited for God’s promise to be fulfilled. David watched God work in his life as he fought a giant, won many battles, fled from Saul, and slowly gathered a following among the people in Israel until God appointed him king over the entire nation. Daniel found favor in the eyes of a high-ranking government official and survived the overthrow of an empire to become a government leader himself. Of course, the shepherds were guided to the manger to see Jesus.

God always leads in a way which is consistent with His character. We can be sure He will never lead us outside His will or away from His best for us. It’s our responsibility to be busy doing those things we know He wants us to do, and then He will show us the next step to take.
