Ever Present, Ever Near

Today's Scripture: That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 1 John 1:3-4

Someone once said, “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.” It’s surprising how many people walk this earth in an aimless state of mind, just drifting through the waters of life.

As a Christian, what should be our goal? The Apostle Paul summed it up well when he stated his purpose, “That I may know Him (God) and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering.”

But, you may say, can I really know God that well? Can I experience the depth of relationship like David or Paul or John? The truth is we all can have a deep relationship with God if we make it our chief desire in life. If we relegate our walk with Him to a part-time pursuit, then we will only know God on a basic level.

The truth is God is very near, ever present. The reason we may not know Him very well is not because He hasn’t invited us into His presence, it is because we haven’t entered. The giants of the faith were intimate with God only because they sought Him with relentless energy.

The promise we have from Him is that if we abandon all and follow, then all the issues on which we expend so much worry will be resolved. C.S. Lewis said, “Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you will get neither.”

What is your goal for your relationship with God? My prayer for you is that you will desire to know God in an increasingly more intimate way. This is where true joy is found.
