"The Advantage of Wisdom" Ecc. 10:10 & Proverbs 7 These are the words of wisdom that come from Solomon. We saw we can enjoy in our Lord Jesus Christ all the feastings in this life and now we look at another "tid bit" from Solomon. The wisdom is our Lord Jesus Christ and as we talk about the axe head it is our Lord that allows us to cleave the wood in our life and existence.
If the axe is dull, you cannot cleave wood. The text looks for us to apply this spiritually. If we do not maintain what we have, it will not do its purpose. The instrument accomplishes its purpose when maintained. If we were to translate literally this verse (last part of verse 10) it would say "but an advantage towards success is wisdom." Wisdom is profitable to direct and advantageous to the task at hand. If you have an axe you better care for it and make sure its edge is keen. We have to ask what is our task? What is the Word we need to spit? "Fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man." It is a sanctified life to the glory of God! This is the task we have before us and now we have the task of a Christian life and ask how are we going to do that? The answer is WISDOM!
Do we put wisdom first in our lives? Wisdom is the principal thing! It is the CUTTING edge of the axe (the application of knowledge.) All the wisdom of man is foolish and "Christ Jesus is the Wisdom of God" and when we have the wisdom of God all the blessings follow. In Christ we have all things...adoption...the truth in all things...the purpose of all things as ALL things are revealed to us in Christ!
Without wisdom you walk in this life in circles like the world around. With no common sense and in stupidity. It is God, His glory, and His covenant to accomplish His glory and we better keep the edge sharp! And to wet the edge is to KNOW the Word of God! "Able to make you wise unto salvation...that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished..." And we MUST KNOW the Word of God! Arm yourself with the cutting edge of the Word of God and it will cut through life and lead you. Make every decision with the Word of God!
The real advantage? Not a carnal one measured by the things here below...but seizing a treasure far greater. We have a task to do God's Kingdom, Church, and glory. Let's make sure our axe is SHARP and bury ourselves in the Word of God to CUT through life easy as we accomplish God's glory till our final abode in glory!
