Many years ago, I read a story about some doctors who were out to dinner. One of the doctors excused himself and when he didn't come back after a little while, one of the other doctors went to find him. To his horror, he found the man dead in the hallway. Apparently, he had been choking on some food and rather than ask for help, he had excused himself to try to get it out by himself. Any of the doctors would have been glad to help him, but he had been too embarrassed to ask.

This is a prime example of what we sometimes do as believers. We have sin in our lives and instead of going to Christ and His church for help, we try to deal with those sins ourselves. There are some people who are reading this devotional who could be having a difficult time in their marriage, but won’t go to their pastor for help because they are embarrassed to do so. Perhaps you are caught up in a gambling lifestyle, your thought life isn’t what it should be, or your devotional times have tapered off.

Don’t wait until it is too late to deal with the problems in your life. The results could be deadly.
