Don't You Worry! - Jim Scudder, Jr.

Today's Scripture: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:2

There was a businessman who was constantly worried. He was growing weary of always being worried, so he put out a help-wanted ad for a professional worrier, offering a salary of $200,000 a year to do all the worrying for him. There were many replies to the ad, and the businessman hired the first applicant. After they finalized the paperwork, the professional worrier asked the businessman, “Ok, where are you going to get the $200,000 to pay me?”

The businessman replied, “It’s not my worry.”

Life gets pretty crazy sometimes. Things come our way that cause us to worry or hurry. Often, we are running around non-stop, and God allows something in our life to get us to slow down and stop. If the Lord is your Shepherd, there might be a time He needs to make you stop and rest.

Young lambs can tend to wander and roam. Like young children, they don’t naturally want to lay down and rest. If a lamb or a pregnant ewe needed to rest, the shepherd had a way to cross the legs so that it would paralyze them. They would then be forced to rest.

If the Lord takes you and immobilizes you for some reason, then that’s a good thing. As your Shepherd, He knows what is best for you. Instead of resisting it, thank the Lord for giving you the time to rest, reflect, and think.

Devotional by Jim Scudder, Jr.
