We live in a world divided by racial, social, and religious barriers. People use these as platforms to elevate themselves above one another, manipulating others like pawns to reach their goals.

Our quest for self-advancement is often at the expense of others. The world teaches that success is reaching the top, regardless of how many people we trample to get there. However, Christ set a different standard. He showed the world that he who would be greatest must first humble himself and become a servant. His life was a brilliant example of this.

In humility, Christ left the splendor of Heaven. He came into the world as a baby in a lowly manger. He lived without ever owning anything. His life was given (not taken) freely upon a cross. Yet in doing this, He eternally secured the pardon for whosoever would put faith in Him.

We love singing about the old rugged cross. Therein lies a powerful message—the ground is level at the foot of the cross! Here title, rank, nationality, and social status are all disregarded as the sinner accepts Christ’s gift. Rather than seeing the external qualities which distinguish a man, God sees a sinner saved by grace.

As a body of believers, we must submit ourselves to the Great Equalizer, laying aside our differences, and humbly kneeling together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
