Are you a believing sinner, and do you, as many of Godâs children, struggle often with inward corruption? Are you hindered with doubt and troubled that what you often see within your own heart may trouble God as much as it troubles you? Let me lend a little encouragement: âIf our heart condemn us God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.â The God who knows all knew how to put our sins away in such a way as to keep them from offending Him. Here is what we must rely on: âBut now once in the end of the world hath He appeared to PUT AWAY SIN by the sacrifice of himself.â These are glad tidings for hopelessly sinful men and women. Repenting of my sins and turning to Christ in faith of His vicarious suffering, I can rest assured that my sins have been put away out of the Holy Godâs sight, under the blood of the sacrificed ONE, never to be seen again! âI, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sinâ (Isaiah 43:25). Who is it that declares this pardon? I tell you right now, on the answer depends all. It cannot be man or angel, for there would be no assurance there. âI, even Iâ it must be God! Why? He is the Being whom our sins have most offended. Sin is offensive to us, and we are sinners. Can you imagine how offensive sin is to a Holy God? Sin is the thing that God hates; it is the only thing that excites His displeasure, yet it is said here that it is He that blots out sin. It is God whom our sins have most injuredâŚAgainst you, you only, have I sinned and done this evil in your sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be clear when you judge (Psalm 51). His standard and law measure even sin against others. My sins, ever how grievous and heinous against my fellow man are most injurious to God, yet it is He who blots out our sin. The Sovereign, whose laws we have broken, is He who pardons sinners. Not God as our Father, but God as the Holy Lawgiver is said to blot out sins. If it is He who forgives none can condemn (Rom.8:31). The Lawgiver is also the Judge before whom all shall stand; yet it is said that it is He who blots out sin. The Father as a judge appointed the Son in the covenant of redemption to stand in the room and stead of His people, and upon paying their sin debt, He then appointed Him judge over all things. In the Day of Judgment when His elect ones stand before Him, He shall declare the case against them dismissed. He being Judge Supremely, and making the final decision which none can reverse. None can challenge it because the pardon was in keeping with justice. âSing, O you heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israelâ (Isaiah 44:23)
