It’s Saturday night, about six o’clock, and you’re in a cold-sweat panic. You promised to share your faith with at least one person every week for the entire year, but after a crazy week filled with doctor appointments, church activities, and extra work assignments, you realize that you’re not going to meet your goal after all.

Is that you? If so, then you’re not alone. Maybe you heard a soul-stirring message at church and now you’re charged up to witness. Or, it could just be that you’ve felt convicted recently because you’ve been a little silent about your faith.

Let me share with you some wisdom I’ve learned over the years. The passion you feel is good – don’t lose that. But I also want to share some perspective.

It’s easy to get caught up in numbers. “How many souls have I won to the Lord this week?”you ask yourself. But we must remember that the saving is not our job – that’s the work of the Holy Spirit.

What is our job according to the Great Commission? Planting seeds. Asking people to stop and think about eternity. Sharing the message in a kind, loving, and clear way. Seizing opportunities.

Sometimes you’ll lead a person all the way from unbelief to salvation. But most of the time, you’ll only have the chance to bring it up and keep the conversation open for later discussion. Maybe someone else will come along and finish the work you’ve begun.

The important thing is not to “guilt yourself” into trying to “close the deal,” as if the entire weight of eternity rests upon you. Remember, it’s God’s work and He’s using you as His vessel of honor.
