RELIGIOUS SUPERSTITION Acts 17:22 âThen Paul stood in the midst of Marsâ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.â
âReligionâ apart from true religion in Christ is but vanity at best. The religion of Christ is true only as Christ dwells in us. Men hold to some forms of the teachings of New Testament Christianity but only in the history of it. âChrist in you the hope of glory;â therefore everything outside of Christ and Christ out of you is nothing but form and ceremony. All false religion is superstition. All false methods, methods contrary to the teachings of scripture, are methods that fuel the superstitious nature of fallen man. Invitation methods and altar calls only provide men opportunity to exercise their fallen inherent religious tendencies. How great the number must be that have been called to the âfront of the churchâ to make public their âdecision for Jesus.â The poor souls must wake up in eternity to find they were altogether deceived and that the Jesus âthat they decidedâ for is not the Christ of God. Only removing the superstition itself from the eyes of the people can root out superstition. Men easily detach themselves from that which they no longer see. The modern spirit of equal rights is another perverted religious idea, which is that everyone has an equal right to salvation and heaven; this betrays the careless into the danger of losing their own souls [see Romans 9 and carefully consider the case of Esau and Jacob]. This spirit, which is the robber of human souls, exists in the midst of the church in the form of superstition. Our Lord has called men to proclaim His truth in this Holy War, not superstitious ideas of their own. Mark their words and deeds with solemn care. If they preach the truth of Godâs Word some will believe and be saved, and some on the other hand will not believe and perish [I Corinthians 1:18]. Godâs commission is of the utmost importance and demands devout attention and obedience from not only those who are ministers but also from all that hear the message of mercy and truth. To alter the truth would involve the crime of treason against the authority of Christ and the souls of men. God give us grace to be very jealous of the truth of the scripture. My dear fellow worm, seek Christ where He is. He is not in an altar call at the front of the church, nor will he be found in manâs invitation. Christ is at the right hand of the Majesty on high, high and lifted up in His glory. Fall at the feet of sovereign mercy and there, as a penitent you will find light and life for your soul. Settle not for a religious experience apart from Christ, let no man in his devilish deception sell you short of Him.
