Today's Scripture: Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:14-16

“I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death.”

These famous words by Patrick Henry have stirred many people down throughout the course of American history. Now this is a lesson that we can learn from our Founding Fathers. They were willing to sacrifice everything for the cause of American independence. Do we have this same level of dedication for our Savior?

Are we willing to say, “Give me Christ, or give me death. Let me serve Him to my utmost ability. May other things seem small, and the problems of life seem petty in comparison to all I want to accomplish for Him, for all that He has done for me”.

We must be willing to die to self, or spiritual freedom will never be discovered. We are all about what we want and the desires of our flesh. We must be willing to say, “I want God’s best, even if it means I’m not going to get the things I want.”

We must think of the big picture. We must never lose sight of the souls who will be in Heaven because of what God can do through a life dedicated to Him. We must also keep in mind the souls that will spend an eternity separated from God if we don’t serve Him.

We must always be on duty. The Continental Army knew that they were signing up for a job that required them to be ready 24/7. The life of a dedicated Christian is a life that must always be ready to serve.

The urgency of time demands our dedication. This world is hurtling towards eternity. Christ could return at any moment. We must redeem the time that we have been given and make the most of every opportunity.

Christian, it is far easier to talk about commitment than it is to actualize it in your life. I pray that the dedication of the signers of the Declaration of Independence will inspire you to be dedicated to serving the One Who died for you.
