The Third Promise - Jim Scudder, Jr.

Today's Scripture: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:3

There was nothing left that they could do. The little girl was in her final moments and was suffering in pain. Her mother, trying to comfort her in any way she could, said, “Honey, I want you to think of the glory of heaven, the streets of gold and the brilliance of God.”

The little girl replied, “Mama, my eyes hurt so bad. I think if that’s what heaven is like, it’s going to hurt my head.”

Then the mother said, “Sweetie, when you go to heaven there will be a wonderful choir of angels, and it will be the most beautiful thing you’ve ever heard.”

“But, mama if that’s what heaven is like, it’s going to hurt my ears.”

At that point her mother reached down and held her little girl close in her arms. The little girl looked up and said, “Mama, if this is what heaven is going to be like, I’m ready to go.”

Our Heavenly Father’s third promise to us in John 14 is there to help us when we just can’t seem to contain the tears. “And if I go, I will come again.” This is referring to the rapture. The dead in Christ shall rise first and we will be caught up with Him in the air. Each day, we can find comfort in these words. How bad can life get if we know that Jesus is coming again for us? How terrible can our troubles really be if we have Heaven awaiting us as our final home?

In my Father’s house are many mansions.

I go to prepare a place for you.

I will come again.

These three promises can get you through anything you will ever face. When all seems lost and the sky is dark; when you hear the thunder, and see the lightning; when it seems like there is nothing left to cling to, remember these three promises from your Heavenly Father. He loves you more than you know.
