“We preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.” 2 Corinthians 4:5
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. Psalm 27:1-4
LOOK TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST The meaning of a word is more clearly understood by how it is used. For example, if I were to shout the word "Look!"you would direct your sight expecting to see something out of the ordinary. On the other hand, if I were to say, "I look to you concerning this matter," you would understand that I was trusting and depending upon you for the accomplishment of it. Now, the message of the gospel is LOOK!Look to the Lord Jesus Christ. Behold HIM!The glory and excellence of His person; the Son of God who was sent "in the likeness of sinful flesh," yet never ceased to be what He was, "The Mighty God."Behold Him in his work as the Substitute and Redeemer of His people, Whose obedience and sacrifice in the room and stead of those He represented, satisfied the demands of law and justice, by which He established righteousness, made atonement for sin and reconciled us to God. Behold Him seated on the right hand of God, our Great High Priest, the God-Man Mediator, Who has entered heaven and occupies it as our Forerunner and Representative, Who also makes intercession for us.Look to Him waiting and expecting to receive salvation from Him, trusting and depending upon Him. "Look unto me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is none else.""Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith."Pastor Charles Pennington
HE NEVER CHANGES Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever (Hebrews 13:8).I am so thankful that as I grow older and things change, inside and out, that there is one who never changes.
His love never changes with time, for he loved me with an everlasting love that knows no change.
His power never changes. He is just as able to keep me from falling today as when I first began.
His Word never changes: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”(Numbers 23:19)Has he not magnified his word above his name?
His election of me shall never change. He will never cast off those whom he has chosen, for they will never do any thing that he did not know about and has not already taken care of.
The Power of His Blood shall never change. It still cleanses from all sin.No matter how deep the stain has gone, his blood washes it away.
His Sacrifice will never change; it will never lose its effectiveness because it is always fresh in the midst of the Throne of God: “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain,…” (Revelation 5:6)We have a living sacrifice standing in the midst of the Throne of God.
When we rise out of our beds in the morning and go through our changes, just remember that there is one who remains the same yesterday, today and forever: The Rock Christ Jesus.Pastor John Chapman
CITIES OF REFUGE The cities of refuge were types of Christ: hence a divine person, even the Messiah, is often spoken of as the refuge of his people, (Ps 9:9 46:1,7 62:7,8) with which compare (Heb 6:18) these were places to flee to., as the word is rendered by the Greek version; to Christ, sensible sinners flee for shelter and safety, which supposes danger in themselves from the law and justice of God; a sense of that danger which makes them flee from wrath to come; a view of Christ, as a place of refuge, and that no other but he will serve their purpose, and therefore make all the haste and speed they can unto him.
The word properly signifies cities of gathering, or of reception. There was a gathering of the elect of God to Christ at his death; and there is another at effectual calling, which is an act of God’s grace, and a distinguishing one, when souls gather to Christ as their Saviour for righteousness, peace, pardon, rest, and everlasting life; and when Christ receives them, though sinners, into his arms, and into his heart, and into open fellowship with him, so as to dwell in him, where they dwell pleasantly and safely; he receives them into his house here, and into heaven hereafter; and by, and in Christ, those that flee to him, and are received by him, are retained and preserved from Satan, law, hell and death.
The cities of refuge were of God’s appointing; so Christ, as a Saviour, and rock of refuge to his people, is appointed and foreordained of God; they were well known for refuges, as the Lord is in the places of Zion; they were open for all, at all times, as Christ is for all sinners, even the chief of sinners, Jews or Gentiles; they are all one in Christ, the Israelite, and the stranger and sojourner; all impediments were removed out of the way of them, and plain directions to them given, as are in the Gospel, and by the ministers of it; and there is always room in Christ for such that flee to him, as there was in those cities; and being in him, they are safe from the curse and condemnation of the law, from wrath to come, and from the second death; and their redemption and atonement, peace and reconciliation, liberty, life and salvation, are owing to the death of Christ, their high priest. The death of Christ, our high priest, atones for every sin of those that flee to him, and by which they are reconciled to God.
