You may be among the millions of people who have been fined for committing a traffic violation at busy intersections. A strategically-placed red-light camera recorded your every move as conclusive evidence that you were in the wrong, and now you have to pay up.

One man was fed up with the whole system, so when his traffic ticket and $40 fine arrived in the mail, he mailed back a picture of $40. The state authorities promptly mailed him a picture of handcuffs. He got the message and sent the money.

There are only two ways we can respond when confronted about our faults. We can either run from the source of discipline, or we can run toward it. Experience has proven it most advantageous to run toward discipline. This may be painful, but it’s worthwhile. We may try to run away, but we’ll never succeed.

This is especially true when God disciplines us. Discipline is often His means to get our attention and awake us from spiritual slumber. A wise Christian will get closer to the Lord in these times because it will hurt much less.

You may be the type of person who can’t admit you’re wrong. All the evidence may be stacked against you, but you refuse to acknowledge your guilt. Unless you humble yourself before God and your authorities, there is more hope for a fool than for you. You’re deceiving yourself if you think you’re above receiving reproof.
