An Immutable Law - Jim Scudder Jr.

Today's Scripture: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7-8

There was a young man who had just bought a car and was bringing it home to show his father. The dad wanted to prepare the driveway for his son, so he went to the garage and got out bicycles, sports equipment, and lawn furniture, and placed them all over the driveway. The neighbor saw this and asked if they were having a garage sale. The father replied, “No, my son just bought a car. After all those years of him leaving his stuff out for me to have to move, I wanted his experience to be just like mine!”

It is a universal truth that spans both the physical realm and the spiritual realm – you will reap what you sow. You might as well try to blot out the sun, as to try and blot out this immutable law of God. It is a law that was set up at creation: we will reap what we sow.

Now, this is not to say that we cannot be forgiven for what we have done, but we will have to deal with the consequences. Think of people like Adam and Eve, who disobeyed God; Cain, who murdered his brother; and even King David, who was guilty of adultery and murder. God forgave, but these all had to face serious, horrible consequences.

It is true for both the skeptic and the believer. It is true for everybody on the planet, not just those who have faith in Christ. It is a law that applies to individuals, families, societies, and nations. Sometimes the reaping is immediate, and sometimes it is months or even years down the road.

There is a blessing to this immutable law of sowing and reaping: if we are sowing seeds of the things of God, we will reap a rich spiritual harvest. Let this truth bless and encourage you today!
