Christ is all in the church. In this day and age, God works in a unique and special way through the local assembly of believers. The word church means “called out assembly.” The local church is to be a group of individuals called out of sin into a much greater life.

What is the purpose of the church? God has us here to be His hands, His feet, and His mouth. He gave the church the responsibility to do His work here on earth. We are His servants, His workers.

We are to do several things when we meet for edification as an assembly in the church. We are to keep the ordinances of communion and baptism, and to preach. When we leave the assembly, we are to evangelize.

Remember that Christ is all in salvation, and He is all in the church. Every time we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, or Communion, we remember what He did for us. When we are baptized, we identify with our Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection. If you take Christ out of either of these things, they are meaningless rituals.

Finally, our preaching must be all about Christ. Whatever topics or issues we are preaching about, ultimately, they must lead the hearer back to the One Who is all in the church – Christ. Next time you sit down in the nice comfortable seat in the auditorium, remember that church is not about a weekly ritual – it is all about Christ.
