In Jer. 29:7 God told the Jewish exiles in Babylon, “Seek the welfare of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the LORD on its behalf, for when it has prosperity, you will prosper.” Likewise, in 1 Tim. 2:1-2 Paul told Christians living in an increasingly hostile Roman Empire, “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” Jesus said in Mt. 10:16, “Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as harmless as doves.” (All HCSB). Christians, contemplate how these verses apply to our own lives and situations. While God may indeed lead some to speak out against evil and injustice, we must not cross the line into becoming insurrectionists or even terrorists.
