Christ Alone! Author: Gary Shepard Tune: O For a Thousand Tongues 1. What hope have we but Christ alone? What righteousness but Him? What peace have we but by His blood? What life but His within?
2. What love know we but His for us? What grace but that from Him? What mercy but what He has shown? What song but Christ our Hymn?
3. What joy but that in God's own Son? What prospect but in Christ? What beauty but the Savior bright? What ransom but His price?
4. What refuge but His shelter sure? What safety but in Him? What blessings but those sure in Christ? What light but His not dim?
5. What glory but the Savior's own? What summons but His call? What more can be than that in Him? What else when Christ is ALL?
***** "In Him" Two small words - "in Him," two small words which in and of themselves are insignificant, one is a common proposition and the other is a personal pronoun. Yet these two words are full of grace and truth. In these two words are found the very essence of the Gospel. Why? Because the person the pronoun refers to is the Lord Jesus Christ, the God Man, the Savior of sinners. And the simple preposition describes the glorious position and relationship of every believer as being in Christ. God "chose us in Him" (Eph. 1:4); we are "justified" in Him (1 Cor. 6:11); we are "the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Cor. 5:21). In Him is "forgiveness of sins"(Eph. 1:7); in Him we are sanctified and redeemed (1Cor. 1:30); in Him is "peace with God" (Rom. 5:10). In Him we have "died to sin" (Rom. 6:2); in Him we are "alive to God" (Rom. 6:11). In Him we have assurance of faith (1 John 2:5); in Him "the love of God is perfected" in all those who believe (1 John2:5), and in Him we have "obtained an inheritance" of eternal riches. Truly the Lord Christ is everything, and all those who are in Him by faith are those who receive and inherit all the great and precious promises given in Christ Jesus. --Copied
****** We Need the Gospel Years ago I heard that Martin Luther was once approached by one of the church members and asked, "Why do you preach the gospel to us every week?" Luther replied, "Because, every week you come here looking like you need it!" I might add my own twist by saying that I preach the gospel every week because I ALSO need it. I need it as much as anyone to whom I preach. I am not a fountain of the gospel; I am only a pipe through which God is sometimes pleased to send His gospel. Apart from His provision of gospel truth and Spirit, I am empty and useless, or as the Psalmist put it, "poor and needy." One reason we do not make church attendance a rule here is that we are convinced that God's people NEED the gospel and will come to hear it preached when they can. The danger is not so much in not attending the worship gatherings of the church; it is in discovering that one has no interest in attending them and must be forced to attend by threats or promises. Do you need God's gospel? Then be where it is preached at every opportunity. --Joe Terrell

Saved By Grace “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 We are saved by grace - free grace, rich grace, sovereign grace, distinguishing grace; without one atom of works, without one grain of creature merit, without anything of the flesh. Oh! Sweet grace, blessed grace! Oh! What a help, what a strength, what a rest for a poor, toiling, striving, laboring soul to find that grace has done all the work, to feel that grace has triumphed in the cross of Christ, to find that nothing is required, nothing is needed, nothing is to be done! --J.
