Plucked from the Garden - Jim Scudder Jr.

Today’s Scripture: For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:8

There was once a very wealthy man who had a garden. He hired another man to tend the garden. The gardener was extremely particular and kept the garden very nice. One day, the gardener came to the garden and noticed that some of his most prized flowers had been picked. He was very upset. He went to his other workers and asked them who picked his flowers.

One of the workers said, “We noticed that the nobleman came down and selected the finest flowers to enjoy in his home.” The gardener soon realized that the master had every right. This was the whole point of having the garden. It was for the master to enjoy.

When God calls one of His children home, it is almost the same as God saying, “It’s time for Me to enjoy you and to have glory from you.” Hopefully, you don’t have the idea that death equals destruction. Both life and death for the Christian is glory. Life on earth means the master is using you for his good now, but death means God is taking you home for His glory.

If you have lost a loved one who has put their faith in Christ, yes, it is still painful. You will miss the person for a season. However, take comfort that the fellowship you miss is being enjoyed by our Creator. You will see them again if you also trust in Jesus Christ alone to save you. His death, burial, and resurrection give us an everlasting hope of our future resurrection and reunion with loved ones.

Devotional by Jim Scudder Jr.
