Many of you may remember Roger Staubach. He led the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl in 1975. As quarterback, Roger was used to calling the plays and using his own signals. However, when he was coached by Coach Landry, whom he admitted was a football genius, Landry was in total control of the calls.

Staubach said that initially had a hard time submitting to Landry because pride said that he should be able to call his own plays. After winning the Super Bowl, Staubach said this, “I faced up to the issue of obedience. Once I learned to obey, there was harmony, fulfillment, and victory.”

So many people reject what God says. Even Christians sometimes decide not to obey. However, when we learn simple obedience, we will learn the path to victory, experience a very wonderful life, and receive more rewards in eternity.

Our pride hates to obey. Our flesh likes to convince us that we know what is best. When God gives us a command, or when people in authority tell us something contrary to our plans, do we obey? Submission is not something we naturally do. When we learn obedience, we are opening the door for blessings beyond comprehension.
