Staring at the Sun - Jim Scudder Jr.

Today’s Scripture: Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Hebrews 3:1

There once was a philosopher who wanted to study the sun. He got tired of looking through the smoked glass, and he just looked directly at the sun for several minutes. Do you know what the last thing he saw was when he went to bed that night? The sun. Do you know the first thing this man saw when he woke up in the morning? The sun. Do you know what he saw all night long with his eyes closed? The sun. Why? Because he focused his gaze intently on it until it made a lasting impression.

In today’s Scripture, we read that we ought to consider Christ Jesus. This Scripture conveys the same idea as the man who intently gazed on the sun. While it is foolish to stare at the sun, it is wise to stare at the Son. We need to stare at the Son until He makes a lasting impression in our lives. I believe that this verse is a call for us to consider and study Who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

When we do this, all we will see is Jesus. We will see Christ in the morning when we wake up. We will see Him at night when we go to bed. We will see Him when we deal with our children, go to work, or look at His creation. All we see is Jesus when we consider “the Apostle and High Priest of our profession.”

Keep your eyes on the One Who loves you more than you could ever comprehend. When you feel broken, when you feel hurt, when you feel like God isn’t listening, or there is no hope, look to Him.
