Today’s Scripture: For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:20

Back in the 1800’s, there was a young man who went to California to look for gold. This miner was among the few that actually discovered much gold. On his way back home, he stopped at New Orleans. While he was there, he noticed a crowd gathered in the street.

When he got to the crowd, he saw a man who was just sold and led off a platform. The very next person to be brought to the platform was a beautiful, young, African girl. The people in the crowd started commenting of their evil intentions if they would purchase the girl.

The bidding started, and as the bidding got higher and higher, it became apparent that two people were bidding for the girl. In between the bids, they would laugh at what they were going to do to her. Finally, one of them stopped bidding.

The auctioneer said, “Going once, going twice…,” and the miner yelled out a number twice as high as the highest bid.

After he paid the amount with gold, the girl was brought to him. She came down, stood before him, and spat in his face. They started walking up one street and down another. It looked like he was looking for something, but the girl didn’t know what.

Finally, he walked into a building and she waited outside. Eventually, the miner came out with papers. He held out the papers to the girl and said, “Here are your emancipation papers. You’re free.”

The girl didn’t look up, so he tried again, “Here! These papers set you free. Take them.”

She again refused to look up and said, “I hate you. Why do you make fun of me?”

The man said, “No, no! These are your papers of freedom; you are a free person.”

“You just bought me, and now you are setting me free?”

“That’s why I bought you.”

The beautiful, young lady fell to her knees and said, “All I want to do is serve you because you bought me and set me free.”

This is redemption. We have been bought and set free from sin. We are redeemed!
