There was a father going out to the stable to feed the horses during a blizzard. From the house to the stable, he had to take big steps because of the snow. About 15 seconds into his short trip, he looked back and noticed that his little boy had come outside. The boy was struggling to get to his father, so he had no choice but to put his feet into his father’s footprints or else be swallowed up by the snow. The father realized right then that this is exactly what children do. They literally will put their feet in our footsteps each and every day.

This is a sobering reminder for all of us. Our children are a heritage from the Lord, and they will emulate parents. We need to make sure that our footsteps are the proper footsteps for them to follow.

I appreciate my father and the example that he has been my whole life to this day. Everything I know, do, and say is because of his example, so I want to honor him today for what he has done for me.

Perhaps you don’t have a godly role model for a father; let me encourage you to still thank God for putting you in the family situation He did. God makes no mistakes. He was molding you even when you were young by placing you where He did.

If you are lacking a father figure in your home, then never forget, God is the Father to the fatherless. You can and ought to go to Him with any problem, knowing He is the perfect Father.
