Missed Destination - Jim Scudder Jr.

Today’s Scripture: Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Psalm 143:10

In 2009, there was a flight that was heading towards Minneapolis. The pilots ignored air traffic controls for approximately 90 minutes and overflew their destination by about 150 miles. What could the pilots possibly have been doing to miss the destination? They were working on their laptops and forgot about their main mission. That put over 150 people in danger. When you fly at an altitude of 18,000 feet or higher, you must do what the controller on the ground tells you to do. The people on the ground have the radar. They know where the other planes are, so they will tell you what to do.

As a pilot, I know you’re in constant communication to the point where it is borderline annoying. You almost have to turn off the radio because you are so annoyed by the voice, but what good would that do? The controller is there for your safety.

In a similar way, we must be controlled by the Spirit of God. You can’t just tune Him out! The Spirit of God is working in our lives. Just as there are always controllers on the ground guiding pilots, the Spirit is always available to guide us. Everyone who is saved is “instrument rated.”

We are able to “fly” without seeing where we are going because we have the help of the Holy Spirit. We exercise faith when we follow the Spirit’s bidding. Don’t ignore the Spirit’s direction. We need to lean on Him to direct you right where God wants you. Don’t miss your destination.

Devotional by Jim Scudder Jr.
