Abraham’s Seed “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ,” Gal. 3:16
God made incredible promises to Abraham and his Seed nearly 4,000 years ago. These promises comprised a Seed, a land for an everlasting possession, an innumerable family and blessings on all nations of the earth. Who then is the Seed of Abraham? What are these promises?
The Seed of Abraham is Christ:
“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ,” Gal. 3:16
The Land for an Everlasting Possession:
"By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.... These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city." Hebrews 11:8-16
The Innumerable Family:
"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." Gal. 3:27-29 "After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb." Revelation 7:9-10
The promise was made with Abraham and his Seed. It is fulfilled in Christ, and because HE abides forever, His spiritual seed is blessed in HIM with ALL that Christ is and what HE procured by His righteous life and obedient death.
There is no mixing of works and grace. “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God.” 2 Cor. 1:20 The promises of the Gospel were first made to Christ, then by Him to those who are, by the Spirit of Grace, engrafted into Him, by faith. Let Christ be always before our eyes, as the only defense of faith against dependence on human, conditional, false righteousness, Jude 1:3.
