What more can any Christian desire?

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” Galatians 6:14

There is enough in a suffering Christ to fill us and satisfy us to the full. He has the greatest worth and wealth in Him. Look, as the worth and value of many pieces of silver is to be found in one piece of gold; just so, all the petty excellencies which are scattered abroad in the creatures are to be found in a bleeding, dying Christ! Yes, all the whole volume of perfections which is spread through heaven and earth is epitomized in Him who suffered on the cross! A man cannot exaggerate in speaking of the glories of Christ. Certainly it is as easy to contain the sea in a sea-shell as to fully relate the transcendent excellencies of a suffering Christ!

O sirs! there is in a crucified Jesus something proportionate to all the straits, needs, necessities, and desires of His poor people.

He is . . .
Bread to nourish them,
a Garment to cover and adorn them,
a Physician to heal them,
a Counselor to advise them,
a Captain to defend them,
a Prince to rule them,
a Prophet to teach them,
a Priest to make atonement for them;
a Husband to protect them,
a Father to provide for them,
a Brother to relieve them,
a Foundation to support them,
a Head to guide them,
a Treasure to enrich them,
a Sun to enlighten them, and
a Fountain to cleanse them!
What more can any Christian desire to satisfy him and save him; and to make him holy and happy-in time and eternity?
--Thomas Brooks

Covenant Favors
Author: Unknown
Tune: "Come, We That Love the Lord" - A. Williams
1. The covenant of free grace,
As made with Christ our Head,
Is stored with precious promises,
By which our souls are fed.

2. The solemn oath of God
Confirms each promise true;
And Jesus, with His precious blood,
Has sealed the covenant, too!

3. Hence all our comforts flow,
And balm for every fear;
May we by sweet experience know
How choice, how rich they are.

The Love of Christ
The love of Christ is like the blue sky, into which you may see clearly, but the real vastness of which you cannot measure.

It is like the sea, into whose bosom you can look a little way, but its depths are unfathomable. --Robert Murray McCheyne

Praise Him!
If I had as many angel's tongues as there have fallen drops of rain since the creation; or as there are leaves of trees in all the forests of the earth; or stars in the heavens to praise Him- yet my Lord Jesus would ever be behind with me. -- Samuel Rutherford

The Painted Beauties of this World will wither!

"If ye then be risen with Christ,
seek those things which are above,
where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."
Colossians 3:1
I would fix all my thoughts and desires on Christ's glory! The more I see of the glory of Christ--the more the painted beauties of this world will wither in my eyes and I will be more and more crucified to this world. It will become to me like something dead and putrid, impossible for me to enjoy!
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus,
the author and finisher of our faith;"
Hebrews 12:2
--John Owen
