A Thought From the Word
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.” I John 1:3
This is a marvel. The holy God of heaven has come down in grace through Jesus Christ, in order to have fellowship with sinful human beings. Wow! This God who is superior and elevated far above His creation is pleased to commune with sinful creatures. The only way this is possible is because of what Jesus did when He came to earth. The barrier of sin and darkness removed, the Holy Spirit applies Christ's blood to sinful hearts giving us repentance and faith whereby we can know and commune with God.
Therefore, highly value and prize fellowship with God. See this not as an add-on, but as something to be prioritized and sought after. This means learning to know God better through diligence in His word and through consistently worshipping Him with fellow saints. Do this as a response of joy to God's kindness and love in being willing to have fellowship with you.
Finally, how will this fellowship grow and be maintained? Through faithfulness to walk in God's words. This is what the Apostle John is saying, “I'm writing to you these words...for you to believe and obey...so that you may have fellowship with who we apostles fellowship...the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.” So, are you walking in the light? Are you trusting Christ and believing God's words; are you with your actions loving God and others? This is the path of fellowship with Almighty God.
