SIXTH COMMANDMENT (Part 1)
Exodus 20:13
1st. The REQUIREMENT
Shorter Catechism: ‘What is required in the sixth commandment?’
Answer: ‘The sixth commandment requireth all lawful endeavours to PRESERVE OUR OWN LIFE, & the LIFE OF OTHERS.’
We are to look after OUR BODIES
We are also to look after OTHERS
The duty of magistrates, judges & police officers
Our duty to the less fortunate & in the family of God – James 2:15,16; Galatians 6:10
This extends beyond the family of God
Furthermore, we ought to forbear all wrongs, & refrain from doing harm to any person... & to forgive those injuries which are done to us, returning good for evil
The greatest good we can do for ourselves & others is regarding our SOULS
