âThat saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.â Isa 44:28 âDeclaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:â Isa 46:10
I think one of the most optimistic people I have ever read from is the prophet Habakkuk. In the face of national devastation he concluded his prophecy with these words ââAlthough the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls; Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and the he will make my feet like hinds feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.â After the revelation in chapter one of the coming Chaldean destruction he prophesied in chapter two verse 14ââFor the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.â This reminds me of a little story once told called âThe Optimistâ
âI passed a sand lot yesterday, Some kids were playing ball, I strolled along the third baseline within the fielderâs call. âSay, whatâs the score?â I asked the chap, He yelled to beat the stuffinâ, âThereâs no one out, the bases full, And they have us down forty-two to nuthinâ! âYouâre gettinâ beat bad, arenât you my lad?â And then in no time flat, He answered: âNo sir, not as yet! Our side ainât been to bat!â
We smile at its humor, but its spirit can be read in our American history. This spirit of optimism caused John Paul Jones to say âIâve just begun to fight.â It sustained Washington at Valley Forge, it built all our schools and churches, and itâs this never-give-up spirit of the American people that says âI donât care how much is against me, I can still win! Just let me bat.â So whoever our God puts into the office of President, Hillary Clinton (God forbid is my prayer) or Donald Trump, as far as His purpose and Kingdom is concerned âIt ainât over til itâs over!â [I might add these are just my thoughts, you may agree or disagree.] The vital issues as far as our nation is concerned are not Immigration, Economy, or Homeland Security. It, my dear readers, is Supreme Court Justice Appointee and Constitutional Freedom; when we come to that it all boils down to one choice. Beware of a Martyr Syndrome. I think (by Godâs grace) I would die for the faith of the Gospel, but I had rather live for and exercise the Freedom to publish it until a âKnowledge of it covers the earth as the waters cover the sea.â
