Given a glimpse of glory, the very first thing that John saw was ‘a throne set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.’

First, note that the symbolism of a throne signifies kingship, a sovereign- one who rules. The fact that it is in heaven is an assurance that this is God’s sovereignty depicted here, ‘of whom, through whom, and by whom are all things,’ Romans 11:36.

Second, note that there is ONE sat on the throne. Who might this be, other than the LORD Jesus Christ, who died, rose again, and “sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on High,” Hebrews 1:3.

Here we find 3 glorious lessons we can learn from this revelation of God’s glory through the apostle John.

1. It reveals the God of the Bible who is sovereign over all things, exercising His will freely when, where, and how He will- Daniel 4:35.

2. It shows the LORD Jesus Christ as ruling and reigning now, rather than sitting and waiting to ascend to the throne at some future time. Many preach a ‘christ,’ who went back to heaven as the ‘savior,’ but is waiting to return again to the earth to be coroneted as ‘lord in some earthly millennial kingdom. [Note that the names of such s ‘christ,’ are put in small letters because such a ‘christ,’ is NOT the Christ of Scripture. Christ Jesus rules and reigns now from glory and ascended to that throne from His resurrection from the dead- Acts 2:30, 31 with Acts 13:32-37.

3. It shows that the death of the LORD Jesus was an actual accomplishment, and not merely an attempt to save everyone. If Christ had not finished the work of propitiation, redemption, reconciliation, and justification, the Scriptures could not declare Him to be sat down on the throne, for being the High Priest, He could not have sat down, His work yet unfinished.
