Jesus, Engrave it on My Heart Author: Samuel Medley Tune: “Doxology”
1. Jesus, engrave it on my heart That Thou the one thing needful art I could from all things parted be But never, never, Lord from Thee.
2. Needful art Thou to make me live Needful art Thou all grace to give Needful is Thy most precious blood Needful is Thy correcting rod.
3. Needful Thy presence, dearest Lord True peace and comfort to afford Needful art Thou, my soul can say Through all life’s dark and thorny way.
4. Needful art Thou to raise my dust In shining glory with the just Needful when in heav’n appear To welcome and present me there.
***** The Glory of the Mystery Col 1:27 “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the Hope of glory:” Here before us in the gospel, God manifests, His compassion towards His people, His justice towards sin, His holiness, His righteousness, His wisdom; and His mercy shines forth in the pardoning of His people by the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ as their substitute! --Pastor Wayne (From Wednesday night’s Colossians series)
***** God is Sovereign How blessed it would be for us, and for all who cross our paths, if we could put our theology into deeds and not mere words. We profess to believe in God's immutable sovereignty and then constantly mourn over our lot in life. We claim to believe in God's purpose and providence, but fill every ear that will listen with our discontent and our sad state of affairs. the most inconsistent person living is the professed Christian who says he believes, "The Most High rules in the kingdom of men and giveth it to whomsoever He will," or, "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you;" and then he fills the air about with a constant stream of complaints and reasons why he should be somewhere else, or doing something else, or blessed in a more abundant measure. A certain cure for anxious care is trust. "Tho' he slay me, yet will I trust Him." --Henry Mahan
***** Three Stages There are three stages of the human soul in connection with Christ: the first is “without Christ”. This is the state of nature. The next is: “in Christ”. This is the state of grace. The third is “with Christ.” That is the state of glory. --C.H. Spurgeon
The World by Wisdom Knew Not GOD What did the philosophy of Greece do for its disciples? It made them ignorant worshipers of an "unknown God" (Acts 17:23). The inscription on their altar published to the universe their ignorance and shame. How can I know God? Where can I find Him? Can science and philosophy tell me? Have they ever told anyone? No, never. "The world by wisdom knew not God." The schools of ancient philosophy could only plunge the human mind into darkness and hopeless bewilderment, and the schools of modern philosophy are not one bit better. They give no certainty, no safe anchorage, no solid ground of confidence, only hopeless speculation, torturing doubt, wild and baseless theory. That's all human philosophy in any age or of any nation has to offer an earnest seeker of truth. How then are we to know God? If such a stupendous result hangs on this knowledge; if to know God is life eternal, and Jesus says it is (John 17:3), then how is He to be known? "No man hath seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him" (John 1:18). Here we have the answer. Christ reveals God to the soul and reveals the Father to the heart. We are not sent to creation to learn who God is, though we see His power, wisdom and goodness there. We are not sent to the law, though we see His holiness and justice there. No, if we want to know Whom and What God is, we are to look into the face of Jesus Christ, Who dwelt in His bosom before all worlds, Who was His eternal delight, the object of His affections. --Scott Richardson
John 8:56-58 “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast Thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I Am.”
