Who is controlling the affairs of this world? Most say the devil. Many concede that God reigns supremely in heaven, but has very little control on earth. Men have taken the material world (inanimate creation) and relegated its control to “scientific” principles and “mother nature”. Of course if it is denied that God created all things, it follows that things must be affixed to something else for their control. Then there is the matter of salvation, whose control has been ascribed to the “wills” of men. Man is his own predestinator. I think that everyone believes in predestination, the difference being, who predestinates? Is everything ordered according to the impersonal and abstract “laws of nature” or to the One that created all things? We only have one source to establish any matter in an absolute way, and that source is the Bible. But in this day of “higher learning” and “scientific wisdom” for one to call the Bible into a matter as a means of settlement is to make himself liable to fanaticism, out-dated, or puritanical. Throw the Bible out and you have no means to establish a matter, therefore no absolutes. Isn’t that where we are as a society? There is nothing really for sure; all is theory and theories change. What has this superior intelligent age developed but a confused, unstable, machine running full steam out of control? This is a society that denies the control of a Sovereign Creator and assigns its control to itself and declares its own sovereignty and yet is in a super state of confusion and chaos due to its obvious lack of control. I personally am more comfortable with the outdated principle (the Bible) of establishing a matter. I believe the book of God answers to everything from the fall of a sparrow to the fall of a monarch. I believe that as scripture affirms “God works all things after the counsel of His own will.” It may be too simple for some, but it is very reasonable to me, that all things pertaining to time and the salvation of His people are working precisely “according to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Jesus Christ our Lord.” In ancient history there was one of the greatest of the world’s monarchs, a staunch advocate of “higher learning” and “scientific principles”. Nebuchadnezzar refused to acknowledge God as the supreme controller of the affairs of men. He exalted himself in the place of the Most High and filled his heart with pride. One day when he gloried as though he had no one to answer to but himself, God brought him down. Jehovah took his mind from him and gave him the sense of the beast. For seven years he ate grass with the ox. Then the Lord restored his mind and He testified these words: “And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honored Him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, WHAT doest thou?” (Daniel 4:34 & 35)
