Today, I read in 1 Kings 13 about the prophet from Judah who came to prophesy against the altar which Jeroboam set up in Israel.
The prophet was told "by the word of the Lord" not to eat or drink in the land of Israel. As the prophet was returning to Judah, an old Prophet sent for him to have him return to Israel. The old prophet said to him, "an angel spake to me by the word of the Lord saying." The old prophet was lying. He encouraged the propeht from Judah to eat and drink in Israel, contradicting what the prophet had been told by the Word of the Lord. It did not end well for the prophet who disobeyed.
This brought to my mind Galatians 1:8 "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed."
There is only one Gospel, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is only one way to be accepted by God, that is through the blood of Jesus Christ. The Scripture encourages not to even listen to angel, if the words of the angel contradict the plain teaching of Scripture. Some today want to say they have a new revelation. They say they have been given a vision by angels. I say, don't listen to them if they contradict the Word.
How important is it to listen to the Word of the Lord? If you could, you should ask the old prophet from Judah. I bet he would tell you not to listen to a Word which contradicts the Word of the Lord, no matter who it is that speaks or how convincing they might be.
