This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
On the prayer call the other day, I was asked if I had the song that was composed in honor of Sallie B and Kathryn's homegoing. Just for a little context, Sallie B was one of our original prayer participants on United Prayer. She is the sister of Linda B and they have lived together and prayed together for revival for many years. Last year, she passed away along with another praying participant, Kathryn, the mother of Nicole Henderson.
Read about it from DAY 336 and DAY 337. Below is a picture of Kathryn's last prayer journal entry. You can read about it more fully from DAY 343.
This conversation brought the memories of that entire time back into the forefront of my mind. I remember it like yesterday. I found the original email surrounding that piece of music which was around DAY 346.
From a praying participant:
I was very touched by the passing of our sisters in Christ, Sallie and Kathryn. When you posted the song that Sallie wrote, as soon as I read the words, a tune immediately came to my mind. I felt that the Lord wanted me to compose the music for it as a gift and hopefully a blessing to Linda and Nicole.
I didn't want to attach my name to it but I wanted it to be sent to them anonymously. Could you please forward the song to them both? I would really want it to be as if Sallie were singing it to them, especially in light of her being in the presence of the Lord right now.
I couldn't help but think of a quote by the prolific historian, Tertullian, when he wrote about the testimony of the Early Church. Apparently, the pagans were struck by the witness of the love Christians had one for another. Here is what Tertullian wrote: "It is mainly the deeds of a love so noble that lead many to put a brand upon us. See how they love one another, they say, for they themselves are animated by mutual hatred; how they are ready even to die for one another, they say, for they themselves will sooner put to death."
May God re-ignite and re-vive the flame of love in our hearts for Christ, yes, but also for one another. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:35).
