This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts." —Psalm 145:4.
With all the noise that surrounds our lives, this continues to be my unwavering desire. It's the North Star of my tossing ship. We know what we believe, and we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. But like the lepers outside the city walls who said, "We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace" (2 Kings 7:9), we have the same burden to declare God's goodness to another generation. The Lord has done great things for us—personally and through our united prayers. And so, the natural desire of our heart is to want to share what we have enjoyed with others. This is true of salvation, but it is also true of our deeper, broader, higher experiences with the Lord in prayer.
For this reason, the men that speak at this year's Foundations Conference will incorporate in their messages stories of how God has deepened their spiritual experience through their various ministries. I have heard bits and pieces of their stories over the years and found it to be tremendously encouraging. Paul Washer with HeartCry. Steve Lawson with OnePassion. Joel Beeke with Reformation Heritage Books. Clarence Sexton with Crown College. And even the story of BJU itself. I trust it will be a blessing to many more.
I have also sought to do the same with Christian businessmen. As I've had the opportunity to interact with some in that orbit, I have found that God is still doing His "mighty acts" in the lives of simple laymen. We will be bringing together some leading Christian businessmen who will also declare their experiences of great spiritual growth through their various businesses, whether it be cattle transport, the financial markets, the hotel and hospitality industry, or global payment processing.
Whether you are a preacher, a businessman, a homeschool mom, or a young person, God is working His mighty acts through us all and it is our responsibility to praise His works to another generation.
