United Prayer Journal // DAY 491
This resolution of  Daily United Prayer  is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore? Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah." Psalm 77:8-9.

These words from the Psalmist were the words of my own prayer this morning. Is His mercy clean gone forever? The obvious answer is, of course not. The Lord's mercies are new every morning. But sometimes, it can feel as though His mercies are clean gone and that the Lord has forgotten to be gracious. Ah, but take a look at how the Psalmist proceeds. What a remedy is here for such a sad condition of soul. Verse 10, "This is my infirmity: BUT I WILL REMEMBER the years of the right hand of the most High. I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old." What is the remedy for a despondent, flagging heart? REMEMBER the works of the Lord. REMEMBER the years of the right hand of the most High. Don't dwell on the negative. Actively remember and rehearse God's great goodness to you over the years. It is not unlike what our brother Chris Charles exhorted us to do in yesterday's prayer meditation.

Take some time today, friends, to just sit and remember. We are forgetful creatures because we are consumed by the present state of affairs that clamor for our constant attention. But we are commanded all over Scripture to remember. The first 8 chapters of Deuteronomy is full of warning not to forget what God has done for us.
"Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen." Deut 4:9.

"Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage." Deut 6:12.

"Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day." Deut 8:11.
Our forgetfulness is tied to unbelief. The ten spies did not believe because they soon forgot God's miraculous deliverance from the Egyptian superpower just a little while ago. If we find ourselves in despair and discouragement, try to remember what God has done for you. Has He not delivered you from Egypt? From the flames of hell itself? Has He not adopted you into His family? Do you not have access to God in prayer? Freely and at any time? Has God not raised up a group of praying saints that are desirous to see God's great name spread throughout the world? Is this not a miracle? Has He not provided for you, your daily bread? REMEMBER how God has delivered you time and time again. And will He now abandon you at the very end? No, and a thousand times no.

Let your memory enlarge your faith.
