This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea." Micah 7:19.
The thing that I love about the Minor Prophets is that they are brutally honest. There's no whitewashing here. They describe a people that have failed—and failed miserably. And yet, the prophecies always finish with tremendous hope, far in excess of what the people deserve. In Micah 7:8, for example, we read of how God's people enter into periods of backsliding and darkness, but it's always coupled with restoration and light. God is faithful, even when we are not.
However, the phrase that came with particular blessing to me is found in verse 19: "HE WILL TURN AGAIN." What a hope! What a prospect! We can take great comfort in the fact that it is no vain thing to cry out to the Lord for revival, for He will "turn again." This is a promise. He will turn again. He will have compassion upon us. He will subdue our iniquities and cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. God's mercies are new every morning, great is His faithfulness. Don't give up praying, friends. He will turn again.
